Pro tip: Don't try to 'save' a hotel room by using a public bus in Bangkok at 5 AM.
I landed super early to avoid paying for an extra night, thinking I'd just take the local bus to kill time until check-in. The bus driver didn't speak English, I got on the wrong line, and ended up at a ferry terminal 20 kilometers away. I learned that a $6 Grab ride is WAY cheaper than losing half a day confused and sweaty. Has anyone else had a cheap transport plan totally backfire?

Oh, I used to be the same way, always trying to save a few bucks on transit. A mix-up like that in a new city taught me the hard way that sometimes the direct option is the real bargain.

Ugh, @jana672, I feel that pain so much, learned it the hard way too!

Yeah @jana672, "the hard way" is right. Learned that lesson with a missed flight once. Direct is cheaper when you count your time.
