Rant: A hostel worker told me I was booking my trips all wrong

This lady at a hostel in Prague flat out said I was wasting money by booking my sleep the same day I arrived. She said I should always book at least 2 days early to get the cheaper dorms and avoid the last minute markup. I changed it up for my trip to Budapest and saved like 12 euros a night. Has anyone else had a hostel employee give you a tip that actually saved you cash?

Yo @amy_martin was that direct booking thing a one-off or have you tried it other places too?

Dude that is such a solid tip from a random hostel worker. I had a similar thing happen at a place in Berlin where the guy at the front desk told me to stop booking through third party sites because hostels hold back their best rooms for direct bookings. I was like yeah sure buddy but then I tried it in Vienna and got a private room for the price of a dorm. Saved me like 20 bucks and I felt kind of dumb for not figuring it out sooner. It's wild how just talking to the people who actually work there can save you so much money.
