Remember when hostels had actual paper bulletin boards for ride shares? Got stuck in Prague for 3 days in 2012 because of one.

Was trying to get to Vienna on like 20 euros. Found a note for a ride leaving that afternoon, number to call. Dude never showed, no cell data to check anything. Ended up sleeping in the hostel common room for two extra nights until I scraped together enough for a train ticket. Now you just check an app. Kinda miss the chaos, but also, never again. Anyone have a wild pre-smartphone travel fail story?

That Berlin bus story from @mia_baker is lucky, those station boards were hit or miss. I got burned in Krakow waiting for a posted bus that had been canceled for months. You really had to trust the wrong info back then.

lewis.gray, those old boards were basically public art.

My go-to move was checking the actual train station boards. In Berlin, I found a last-minute 15 euro bus to Amsterdam that wasn't listed anywhere online.
