Rolled my eyes at the $9 airport shuttle guy holding a cardboard sign, and he got me to my hostel in 15 minutes
In Bangkok last year I walked past this guy three times holding a sign with my hostel name spelled wrong, and my first thought was scam written all over it. I had already looked up the taxi meter and it was gonna run me about 400 baht, so this dude saying 300 for a "fast van" sounded like a trap. I stood there in the heat for ten minutes going back and forth in my head, sweat dripping down my back, while he just waited and pointed at his little clipboard of other backpackers. Finally I said fine, and he walked me 40 steps to a real van with four other people already in it. We left right then, no stops, no shop detours, and I was at my door for 15 minutes and 300 baht flat. The guy even carried my bag up the steps and refused a tip. Now I don't know what to trust, because my gut said scam and my wallet said thank you. Has anyone else had a sign guy turn out to be the most honest person at the airport?
