Shoutout to the guy at a hostel in Berlin who showed me you can get free museum entry by volunteering as a coat check for an hour
Found this out after he swapped shifts with me so I could see the Pergamon. Has anyone else snuck into attractions with a 'work for entry' trick?

Ever wonder if places like botanical gardens or small theaters have similar deals? I got into a tiny jazz club once by helping stack chairs after the last set... they just gave me a drink ticket and let me stay.

Oh totally. I saw a guy sweeping up leaves at the community garden get handed a free tomato plant. Small places run on a shoestring budget, so an extra pair of hands is huge for them. I bet if you asked at a little theater if they needed help with programs or cleaning, they'd find a way to say thanks. It's that old trade, labor for a little bit of the magic.

But that unpaid work just lets them avoid hiring people fairly, you know?

Sounds like a fair trade to me. People get weird about unpaid work, but an hour for a free ticket isn't exactly exploitation. It's just helping out.
