The 'hidden city ticketing' trick nearly got me banned from Delta

Ngl I tried that Skiplagged hack where you book a connecting flight and get off at the layover. Saved $180 on a trip to Charlotte last month. But when I tried it again going to Chicago, the gate agent pulled me aside and said they flagged my account for fare abuse. Has anyone else actually gotten in trouble for this or was I just unlucky with that specific agent?

The key is to never do it more than once on the same airline, they definitely track your booking history. I got a warning email from American after my second time, so now I just save the trick for emergency cheap flights.

Yeah, I gotta push back on this a little. @emma_wells83 I think you're being too cautious honestly. Airlines track everything but they don't really have a good system to flag someone for using a travel hack once or twice. I've done the same trick on Delta like four times over two years and never got a peep from them. The email you got from American was probably a generic warning they send to everyone who cancels a booking within a certain window. If you're that worried, just use a different account or book through a third party site so it's not linked to your name directly. Saving the trick for emergencies only means you're missing out on cheap flights you could be taking right now.
