TIL that traveling with just a backpack is doable
Honestly, I figured I needed a checked bag for any trip. After packing light for a weekend, I saved on fees and had less stress. Tbh, it's a game-changer.

Remember cramming three pairs of shoes into my bag for a week in Austin, thinking I needed options. Those stupid boots took up half my backpack and gave me blisters the first day. Spent the whole trip in cheap flip flops I bought at a gas station, and my back hurt from hauling all that junk around. Now I just wear the one pair that works for walking, maybe pack some sneakers if there's a real need. What's the one thing you used to overpack that you finally gave up on?

Totally get the hairdryer thing. My sister insisted on packing hers for Europe and the voltage difference just fried it. She had to buy a cheap one there anyway, and it took up so much room in her bag for no reason. Most places have one you can borrow if you really need it.

Brought a hairdryer once, never again.

Yeah that "never again" hits hard. I brought mine on a trip and my toddler kept trying to dry the cat with it. Maybe it's just me but I can't have nice things.
