Warning: Found out hotel 'resort fees' can be more than the room itself

I was booking a 3 night stay in Nashville for next month and found a room for $55 a night on Hotels.com. But when I went to check out, there was a $42 daily resort fee tacked on, plus taxes. That made the total $291 for a place I thought would cost me $165. Has anyone found a good way to see the real price upfront without clicking through 3 pages?

Try calling the hotel directly to ask about all fees before booking, that usually works better.

Good for you @ray_sullivan, that's solid advice honestly. People don't realize how much sketchy stuff gets buried in those online booking fees.

The 30 dollar "resort fee" at that place in Austin last year was ridiculous. Hotels get away with it because nobody reads the fine print, @taylor_patel. But calling direct really does cut through all that nonsense.
