Warning: I tracked every penny of a 9 day trip to Montreal and the coffee shop habit was the shocker
Kept a running list on my phone for a trip to Montreal back in May. 9 days, two of us, total spend came to $1,180. But here is the part that floored me. When I sorted the list at the end, $214 of that was coffee. Not meals. Just coffee. We were grabbing two lattes a day at $6 each because our hostel had no kettle and we kept telling ourselves it was 'only a few bucks.' Switched to a $12 travel kettle and instant packs from the grocery store on day 6. The last 4 days of the trip cost $63 on drinks instead of the $95 we would have burned at the same pace. Same city, same walking routes, totally different number. Anyone else find one tiny habit quietly eating a whole chunk of their travel budget?
