Chose between a $45 rice cooker and a $12 pot, and the cheap one won

My old rice cooker died 6 weeks ago and I stood in the aisle at H Mart in Aurora staring at a $45 Zojirushi and a $12 basic pot. I went with the pot because I told myself I could just watch the stove, and I burned the first 3 batches so bad the smoke alarm went off twice. By batch 5 I had the water ratio down and now it comes out better than the cooker ever did, plus I saved $33. Anyone else find a cheap tool that beat the fancy one once you just learned to use it right?
