I was at the grocery store in Springfield and saw they had a 'reduced for quick sale' cart.
I found a whole chicken marked down to $3.50 because it was near its sell-by date, so I bought it and made soup for three meals. Has anyone else found good deals in those carts at their local store?

Our Kroger marks down their bakery stuff around 7pm. I got a loaf of their fancy sourdough for a dollar last week. The trick is to freeze it right away if you aren't using it that night. I slice it first and just pull out a couple pieces to toast.

That's a solid tip from @the_diana... makes me wonder if the bakery staff just wants to go home and marks stuff down faster on busy nights.

The three dollar sourdough is a good find, but @elliot_mason62 was right about the meat selection too, have you ever found any good deals on their higher-end cuts?

Used to walk right past those carts thinking it was all spoiled food. Then I saw a guy at my store, kind of like what simonk98 said about bakery staff, just loading it up with perfectly good stuff. I grabbed some marked down veggies on a whim and made a huge pot of stew. Changed my whole view. Now I check it every time, it's like a weird little treasure hunt for dinner.
