My emergency fund hit $2,000 this morning and I almost cried
I've been putting $50 from every paycheck into a separate savings account for the past year and a half. I set it up on auto-transfer so I wouldn't even see the money. I just checked the balance today because I was paying a bill online and saw it was at $2,047. I honestly forgot I was even that close. It matters because my car is old and I've been so scared it would break down and I'd have no way to fix it. Now, if the transmission goes, I have a real cushion. It doesn't feel like a lot, but it's more than I've ever had before. Has anyone else hit a savings number that made them feel a little less stressed about life?

Honestly, my emergency fund is still basically a coffee can with some spare change in it. I saw my balance last week and got excited, then realized it was just my regular checking account. That auto-transfer thing is genius, I should really set that up. Congrats on hitting your goal, that must feel amazing.

That first real emergency fund changes everything about how you sleep at night.

How big did that fund need to be before you felt the shift? @amyh12's auto-transfer idea is smart, but the actual number seems like the real key.
