My grocery bill went from $800 to $500 a month after one simple change

For years, I just went to the store and bought whatever we needed that week, no real plan. Our family of four in Charlotte was spending about $800 a month on food. Six months ago, I started planning every single meal on Sunday and making a strict list. I also switched to buying most of our meat and pantry items in bulk at a local warehouse store once a month. Now I'm averaging $500, and we have way less food waste. Has anyone else found that bulk buying for certain items, but not others, is the key to saving?

Actually, I'd say the strict weekly plan is the real hero, not just bulk buying. Bulk stuff can still go to waste if you don't have a plan for it. The list forces you to only buy what you'll actually use that month.

Absolutely, same here with the bulk staples!

Totally get that. Bulk buying is a game changer for the stuff that doesn't go bad. But I still grab fresh produce weekly.
