PSA: My grocery store's clearance rack saved me $80 this month

I was at the Kroger on Elm Street, just grabbing milk, when I saw the manager marking down a ton of meat. I got a whole pork shoulder for $5 and froze it. How do you guys find the best markdowns in your area?

Nice! I read that the best time to hit the meat markdowns is usually right after the morning stocking shift. Managers need to clear the old stuff before the new delivery comes in. Have you noticed a pattern like that at your store?

Makes sense, they gotta move the old stock. Is that a set time every day or does it just depend on when the truck shows up?

You're right on the money, @shanec61. At my local store, it's totally based on the truck. The schedule is never the same. I've seen the markdown stickers go on at 10 AM one day and 4 PM the next. You just have to get lucky and catch the guy with the sticker gun rolling his cart through the aisles. It makes planning a trip for deals pretty much impossible.
