Saved $50 a month just by switching my grocery store trips to Wednesday mornings
I was doing my usual Saturday grocery run for years and always blowing past my $400 budget. Then my coworker told me she does her shopping on Wednesday mornings because that's when the store marks down meat and bread that's close to the sell-by date. I figured it was worth a shot and went last Wednesday around 8am. The discount section was packed with stuff I normally buy, like chicken breasts marked down 30% and loaves of bread for 99 cents. I grabbed enough to meal prep for the week and my total came out to $312, which is almost $90 under my usual. I've been doing it for three weeks now and it's consistently saving me $50-60 each trip. Has anyone else noticed a big difference just from changing what day they go?

Have you thought about checking if your store has a clearance section for non-food items too? I found out the hard way that Wednesday morning deals are great for groceries, but my local store also marks down cleaning supplies and toilet paper on the same day. I grabbed a bottle of laundry detergent for half off last week just because it had a dented lid. That saved me another $7 on top of the food savings, and it really added up over the month. It might be worth a quick look next time you go.

Did you ever check the very back of those clearance shelves? I've had good luck finding stuff that got pushed behind other items and forgotten. My local store does the same Wednesday markdowns, but I also found that if you go late Tuesday evening right before they close, sometimes they start putting out the clearance stuff early. I snagged a whole box of garbage bags for like 60 percent off once just because the box was a little crushed. It's worth a peek behind the obvious stuff to see what got buried back there.

Nah I totally do that too. The back of those shelves is a goldmine. I found a whole stack of aluminum foil once just buried behind some random pasta boxes. Half price because the cardboard was a little flattened on one corner. People just grab the first thing they see and move on.
