That $300 meal kit subscription was the dumbest thing I did to my food budget
I signed up for one of those meal kit boxes back in January because a friend gave me a code for 2 weeks free. After the intro boxes ran out it jumped to $75 a week for 3 dinners, and I kept it going for a month before I did the math. That's $300 that could have fed me 6 weeks of groceries if I just cooked the same meals myself. I sat down and wrote out what the boxes actually sent and it was like $8 of chicken and veggies per dinner. Has anyone else done the intro deal and then bailed when the real price hit? Would love to know what finally made you cancel.
Man, I have to disagree on this one. My wife and I did the same intro deal and after the free weeks we stuck with it for about six months at full price, and yeah it was more money, but we actually ate the food. Before that we were tossing half the produce we bought because we never got around to cooking it. The kit forced us to cook, and we learned a few meals we still make now on our own. So the $300 stings, but it wasn't wasted if you actually used it.
