The freezer inventory list I started in March saved me $80 this week
I used to just shove stuff in there and forget it, then buy more at the store. Now I tape a notepad on the door and write every pack of chicken or veggie as it goes in, so I actually use what I have before it becomes freezer burn. Anyone else keep a running list or am I the only weirdo who counts frozen peas?

Whoa, hold on, frozen food does NOT last forever! It stays safe to eat, sure, but the TASTE and texture really go downhill after a few months. That chicken you forgot about for six months is gonna be chewy and tasteless, and that's if it's not covered in ice crystals. You're right that the store is close, but the whole point is not having to RUN there when you're already hungry and tired, plus you're not throwing out stuff that's basically ruined. Nobody is counting individual peas, but knowing you have three bags of spinach already beats buying a fourth one, that's just plain math.

Why would you waste time doing all that when the store is like 10 minutes away? You're basically punishing yourself with extra chores to save a few bucks that you probably spent on the notepad and tape anyway. Frozen food lasts forever, so who cares if it sits there for six months? That $80 you think you saved is just money you didn't spend, but you also didn't get to eat what you wanted when you wanted it. Plus, keeping a list is just another thing to mess up when you're tired and rushing to cook dinner.
