TIL my grocery store app has a 'unit price' toggle that saved me $14

I was at the Publix on Broad Street last Tuesday and noticed a little button in their app that switches prices to cost per ounce. I always thought the big family size boxes were the better deal, but turns out the smaller bag of rice was actually 4 cents cheaper per pound. That one toggle saved me 14 bucks on my whole cart compared to what I usually spend. Has anyone else found hidden features in store apps that actually help your wallet?

Ha, that's a slick little feature! I bet most people never even notice that toggle and just grab whatever looks biggest on the shelf.

I read somewhere that stores actually bank on that confusion.

God, yes. I read this thing from a former grocery chain marketing person who basically admitted they design those price per unit labels to be as confusing as possible on purpose. They specifically put the unit price in tiny print and use different measurements for comparable items so you can't easily compare. It's not an accident that one brand shows per ounce and the other shows per pound.
