Rant: I finally stopped adding a weekly habit tracker to my bujo

I spent 4 months tracking things like "drink water" and "floss" in a fancy grid and never once looked back at it. Last week I just started writing the habits in my daily log with a check mark and it actually works better for me. Anyone else ditch dedicated trackers for just keeping it in the dailies?

I used to think those minimalist spreads with just lines and dates looked lazy. But I kept burning out trying to keep up with my full color weekly layouts. Still don't get the obsession with monthly cover pages

I was at a Starbucks in Portland last month working on my bujo and spent 45 minutes trying to draw this elaborate October cover page. Ended up messing up the lettering three times, ripped the page out, and just wrote "Oct" in black pen. Honestly felt way better just using that space for a weekly layout instead. Has anyone else abandoned fancy cover pages for something more practical?

The two pen rule saved my bujo from chaos

I used to think people who limited their bullet journal to just two pens were being dramatic lol. For like 3 months I was using 8 different colors and a ton of highlighters. Then I went to flip back through my May spread and couldn't read a single thing because all the colors blended together. Now I just use a black Pilot G2 and one blue highlighter for headers and it's actually way easier to find stuff. Has anyone else simplified their setup and found it worked better?

Digital vs analog for daily logs: paper won after 6 weeks of trying both

I ran a little experiment with my bullet journal for the last 6 weeks. I did three weeks using a digital app like Notion and then three weeks using my old dot grid notebook. The app was great for search and adding links, but I felt less connected to what I wrote. With paper, I remembered tasks better because I had to rewrite them, and my brain seemed to slow down. The biggest difference was at the end of the day - scanning a physical page felt more satisfying than scrolling. Has anyone else found that going back to paper made their tracking stick better?

I finally figured out why my weekly spreads kept falling apart by Wednesday

For about six months now I've been doing bullet journaling on and off, and every time I'd set up a nice weekly spread it would look great on Sunday but by Tuesday or Wednesday I'd have stuff spilling into the margins and crossing things out. I thought I was just bad at planning or picking the wrong layout. Then last week I paid closer attention to what I actually write down during a typical workday. Turns out I was trying to cram 4 or 5 tasks into each day when in reality I only do about 2 or 3 solid things plus random small stuff. So I switched to a minimalist weekly layout with just 3 task slots per day and a little notes section on the side. It's been 9 days now and my pages actually look clean at the end of the week. Has anyone else found that their problem wasn't the layout but how many tasks they were trying to squeeze in?

Spent $80 on a fancy dotted journal and it actually made me hate bullet journaling

Warning: I spent $40 on a special pen set and it nearly ruined my journal

I mean, I saw this fancy set of brush pens online, the kind people use for those big, pretty headers. They were about forty bucks, which felt like a lot, but I thought they'd make my weekly spreads look amazing. The first time I tried them, the ink bled right through the page of my regular dotted journal. It left these ugly ghost marks on the next five pages, and I could even see it from the back cover. I had to skip a whole chunk of my book because it looked so bad. Now I'm stuck with pens I can't use unless I buy a whole new, way more expensive journal with thicker paper. It was such a waste and a huge letdown. Has anyone else had a pen disaster, and what paper do you use now to stop the bleed?

Started a new job in Phoenix about two months ago, and my old bullet journal setup just wasn't cutting it. I had to choose between sticking with my detailed daily logs or switching to a weekly spread to see the whole week at once. I picked the weekly spread because I needed to plan meetings and deadlines further out. I drew it out on a Monday with a simple grid, and it felt weird at first not writing a new page every morning. But after three weeks, I can see my whole workload way clearer, and I'm not missing small tasks as much. The only thing I miss is the space for little notes from each day. Has anyone else switched their main layout for a new job? How did you keep track of daily details?

My journal got soaked on a camping trip in the Blue Ridge Mountains

I left my bullet journal on a picnic table overnight, and a surprise rainstorm rolled in around 3 AM. When I found it in the morning, the pages were stuck together and the ink had bled everywhere.
