My habit tracker fell apart after 72 hours

I spent a whole Sunday designing this super detailed habit tracker for sleep, water, and reading, but by Wednesday the lines were so messy I couldn't tell what I'd tracked lol. Turns out I used a pen that bled through the page and my ruler slipped on every single row. Has anyone else had a simple layout fail harder than a fancy one?

Dude I went through the exact same thing with a bullet journal last year. I tried to make this huge color coded system with washi tape and everything but by day four it looked like a toddler got into the craft supplies lol. What actually worked for me was just a plain spiral notebook and a single black pen. I drew one vertical line for the date and one horizontal line for the task name, no rulers or fancy stuff. The key was keeping it so simple that I could fill it in while half asleep. Now I just check off boxes and if I mess up I scribble it out and move on. That messy super detailed layout just adds pressure and makes it easier to quit.

Wait, you and @jordan_hill actually convinced me, I was wrong about needing fancy supplies to stay organized.

That spiral notebook setup you described is exactly what worked for me too. I just use a pencil and a plain pocket notebook now and it's somehow less stressful than the fancy stuff I used to buy.

The trick is making it ugly on purpose so you don't feel bad about messing it up. I started using a crumpled receipt and a broken pencil and suddenly I actually stuck with it.
