Used to skip my daily log for months at a time

I had this habit where I'd just stop writing in my bullet journal around March and not pick it up again until summer. Then I realized I was trying to make every page look perfect with drawings and washi tape. Now I just use a simple monthly spread with basic tasks and it keeps me going all year. Anyone else find that keeping it ugly helps you stick with it?

my buddy started just scribbling his tasks on a napkin during lunch and somehow that's the only journal he's ever stuck with for a full year. he even dropped it in a puddle once and just kept using it, all wrinkly and stained. eventually it became his favorite notebook because it didn't feel precious anymore.

Wait, he seriously kept using a napkin notebook after dropping it in a puddle? That's next level commitment to something that was free with lunch.

That napkin journal story from @colethomas and his buddy really hit home for me. Do you think the reason it worked was because it was literally disposable, like there was no pressure to make it last? I've seen a few folks at my shop swear by cheap spiral notebooks for the same reason.
