Friend of mine went to one of those. Said it was mostly them reading from a script and trying to sell a book the whole time. Felt pretty ripped off after.

Oh man I gotta disagree with @the_holly on that one. I went to one of their shows last year and it was totally different from what I heard - yeah they had some scripted parts but there was a ton of live banter and Q&A too. Maybe your friend caught a bad date or something but my experience was super engaging and not pushy at all about the book. They spent most of the time just talking about the ideas behind everything and it honestly felt like a real conversation not a sales pitch. Different strokes I guess but I'd tell anyone to give it a shot if they're curious.
