Saw two apology videos back to back. Night and day.

Yesterday I watched that chef's apology for the old tweets. Then right after, the actor's video for the same thing. Chef just looked at the camera for 90 seconds, said 'sorry if you were offended.' Actor gave a real timeline, said 'I said this in 2012, it was wrong then, here's what I've done since.' The difference was huge. One felt like a script, the other felt like a person. Made me think about what makes an apology actually land. What's the worst 'non-apology' you've seen from a famous person lately?

That politician last month who said his comments were "taken out of context" and then spent the whole time talking about how hard the backlash was on his family. Felt like he was sorry he got caught, not sorry for what he said. Zero ownership.

That politician spent three whole minutes talking about his wife's stress headaches before he even said the word "apology". It's like @oliver855 said, the only thing he owned was a victim complex. Classic move to hide behind your family when you're the one who messed up. Makes you wonder if they practice that sad face in the mirror. Do they think we can't see right through it?

But what if the chef was just being honest? Maybe he really doesn't get why the old tweets are bad, so a forced list of actions would be fake. @oliver855's politician was a mess, but sometimes a short "sorry" is all someone has.
