Warning: A fan's direct message made me rethink my whole take on that apology

I was all set to trash a comedian's apology last month for some old tweets. But a fan replied to my post and said 'you've never had to unlearn 15 years of bad jokes in public.' That stopped me cold. I started listening to the actual apology again instead of just yelling at it. Has anyone else had a single comment flip your whole view on whether someone deserves grace?

Yeah, my embarrassing hot takes on pizza toppings deserve way less grace than that.

That "grace" part is what got me too. I used to be the guy who would argue pineapple on pizza was some kind of crime against food. Then I actually tried it with jalapenos and ham one night and realized I was just being stubborn for no reason. Now I'll eat almost anything on a pizza as long as it's not cold seafood.
