Appreciation post: The guy who taught me cupping at a roastery in Austin

Last month I sat in on a cupping session at a small roastery on the east side, and the owner spent 45 minutes breaking down how acidity and body work together. Has anyone else met someone who just made everything click with a single demonstration?

Hold on, 45 minutes for ONE cupping session? Are you serious? Like, I get that you want to be thorough, but I'd be staring at the clock after 15 minutes wondering if I missed the part where we actually taste anything. Most cuppings I've been to are over in 20 minutes tops, and by minute 30 I'm itching to just grab my favorite bag and leave. That must have been the most intense coffee lecture of your life, or you were really just standing there watching someone slurp for three quarters of an hour. I'd lose my mind.

Whoa, hold on. 45 minutes for one cupping session? That's like a whole episode of a TV show (but way more caffeinated). That's insane in the best way though, I bet you learned more in that 45 minutes than in a year of just drinking coffee blind. Most cupping sessions I've been to feel rushed, like they're trying to get through a checklist before the coffee gets cold. But 45 minutes of just breaking down acidity and body? That's a master class, not a demo. I'm actually jealous, my first cupping was like 10 minutes of "yeah, this is good coffee" and that was it.
