Chose a $22 hand grinder over a $150 electric one at the Santa Fe farmers market
The guy at the stall let me try both on the same Ethiopian beans and honestly the hand grinder gave a way more even grind. I picked the hand one and now my arm gets a workout every morning at 6am. Went through 2 pounds in a little over 3 weeks and the cup is cleaner than anything my old blade grinder ever made. Tbh I still wonder if I just got talked into it, anyone else switch to manual and never look back?
Two pounds in 3 weeks is nothing, I did 5 pounds in my first month after grabbing a $35 Hario Skerton at a flea market in Portland. The burr grind really does beat a blade, my old electric one would leave big chunks mixed with powder and my pour overs tasted muddy. Manual gives you that even bed and you can actually feel when the beans fight back if they are too oily. My arm got used to it after a couple weeks and now the 6am grind is just part of the routine. I kept waiting to regret not buying electric and it never happened, the cup speaks for itself every single morning.
