French press versus pour over - I finally picked a side

I spent the last 6 months doing both methods side by side every morning. For me, the pour over with a Hario V60 gives way cleaner flavor than my Bodum French press. The French press leaves too much silt and the oils make it taste muddy. Anyone else feel like one method just clicks better for your taste?

Woah, hold on, I gotta push back hard on this one! @maxl93 how can you say the V60 is simpler? Yeah, technically you just pour water through grounds, but you need a gooseneck kettle, filters that run out, a scale, and you have to pour in little circles for like 3 minutes. That's way more hassle than my French press routine - dump in grounds, pour hot water, wait 4 minutes, press, and done. No special gear, no paper waste, just coffee and water. And the silt people complain about? That's flavor! The oils are where all the body and richness live, and a paper filter strips them right out. I tried a V60 for a month and every cup felt thin and weak compared to what I get from my press. The French press gives you the full bean experience, while the V60 just feels like drinking coffee through a napkin.

Do you ever notice how the stuff we deal with in the kitchen kinda mirrors how we handle life in general? I went through the same thing with my coffee setup. Started with a cheap drip machine, then tried a French press for months because everyone online swore by it. But that silt always bugged me, like a little grain of sand in your shoe you can't shake out. Switched to a V60 and it's like the whole experience got simpler and cleaner. I think people get stuck in habits or trends without stepping back to see what actually works for them, not just what looks good on Instagram. You picked a side and that's a good thing. Sometimes you just gotta trust your own taste buds over the hype.

Totally agree, I ditched the French press for the same reason.
