Guy at a truck stop in Ohio told me my pour-over method was all wrong

He was a retired barista from Portland and spent 20 minutes showing me how to swirl the bloom instead of stirring it. Has anyone else had a stranger just walk up and give you coffee advice out of nowhere?

Stirring is fine... I've been making pour-over coffee for years and stirring gets the grounds just as saturated as swirling does. People get way too hung up on technique when the real difference is the grind size and water temperature anyway. That retired barista probably just wanted someone to talk to, not actually fix your coffee...

It's like how everyone feels the need to tell you the "right" way to fold a fitted sheet or load a dishwasher. At some point you realize most people are just passing along what they heard, not some sacred wisdom.

@beth_park nail on the head with that retired barista point. Most people just want to share what they know, not micromanage how you make your morning cup.
