I was sure my $15 blade grinder was fine, but a friend's hand grinder in Seattle changed my mind completely.

Yeah, that's the exact moment it clicks for everyone. You don't know what you're missing until you taste the difference side by side. A good grinder is the single biggest upgrade you can make, way more important than the coffee maker itself. Once you have uniform grounds, everything just tastes better. It's a tough pill to swallow after thinking a cheap grinder was fine for so long.

Ever notice how this happens with a lot of stuff? You get used to something being kinda bad and don't even see it until you try the good version. Makes me look at my whole kitchen differently now.

Man, that's so true. @hernandez.stella and jessem59 nailed it. It's wild how you don't even realize the muddy taste until you get a clean cup from good grounds. Makes you wonder what else you're putting up with.
