My $250 espresso machine died after 14 months, right when I needed it most

The pump gave out on my Breville this morning while I was trying to pull a shot before work. I ended up dumping the whole thing in the trash and grabbed a $30 French press from Target just to get my fix. Anybody else had a mid-range machine crap out way too soon?

Did you try descaling it first or just toss it?

Totally agree, that's almost always the issue. I trashed my first one before I figured out descaling but once I got it right the thing ran like new for another year.

Yeah @young.thomas, descaling fixed mine too. Night and day difference.

Used to think descaling was just some overhyped maintenance thing people did for no reason. Tossed my first machine straight into recycling when it started acting up, felt pretty dumb later when I actually tried it on the replacement. That one simple step honestly saved me from buying a whole new machine and now I never skip it.
