My French press exploded coffee grounds all over my kitchen counter this morning.

I was rushing and didn't let the water cool enough before pouring it in. The glass carafe cracked and I spent 20 minutes cleaning wet grounds out of the grout. Anyone have a good method for cleaning up a mess like that?

Pour boiling water into a cold glass, that's a recipe for disaster. I've done the same thing and learned to wait a full minute off the boil. A wet paper towel works best for scooping up the grounds before they dry.

Yeah, I read something similar about the temperature shock. It makes sense that waiting like @paige_robinson24 mentioned helps the glass adjust. That wet paper towel trick is a lifesaver for the mess, too.

Oh man, my friend @paige_robinson24 did the exact same thing last week with her French press... she ended up finding tiny dried grounds in places for days, even after scrubbing.

Ugh, I always thought hot water was fine until @phoenixk64's tip saved my next press.
