Question about those $80 insulated travel mugs

I grabbed one of those double-walled stainless steel mugs last month, thinking it would keep my pour-over hot for my commute. First day, I brewed a cup, screwed the lid on, and drove to work. When I got there, the coffee was barely warm, like it had been sitting out for an hour. I checked the seal and everything seemed fine. Has anyone else had this happen with a supposedly high-end mug? Wondering if I just got a bad one or if I'm missing something obvious.

Is it the one with the flip lid that locks? I had the exact same letdown. Poured in boiling water for tea, and two hours later it was just lukewarm. I even tried preheating it with hot water first, like they say to do. Made no difference at all. Felt like a total waste of money for something that doesn't do its one job.

Check the lid seal, mine was warped.

@rodriguez.mia had the same problem I did with that flip lid model. It's the lid letting heat out through the drinking hole, even when it's closed. I tested mine by filling it with hot water and checking the outside with my hand. The whole lid area felt warm to the touch, while the stainless steel body stayed cool. So it's not a bad seal, it's just the design itself. The heat has to escape somewhere and they chose the path of least resistance right through the top.
