Rant: my roast was muddy for months until a guy at a Denver cupping told me my grinder burrs were shot
I was grinding for pour over with the same $40 hand grinder I bought in 2021 and could not figure out why every cup tasted flat and sour no matter what beans I used. At a Saturday cupping at a shop in Denver last month, a guy watched me grind and just said "your burrs are done, you're smashing the beans not cutting them." Swapped the burrs for $28 and the same Ethiopian beans I had in my cabinet suddenly tasted like blueberries, so how often are you all checking your burrs?
smashing the beans not cutting them" hits home, I had the same thing happen with a cheap electric grinder and just assumed my beans were stale lol. Now I swap burrs every year or so and the diff is night and day.
