Switched from pour-over to French press after 6 years

Always thought French press made muddy coffee until my buddy brought his to a camping trip last month. The body on that brew was way richer than my V60 pour-overs, especially with a darker roast. Anyone else change their main brew method and regret not doing it sooner?

Did you try grinding a little coarser for the French press? That was my big mistake at first, ended up with sludge too. But yeah, the richness is night and day, especially with dark roasts like you said.

Tbh I saw this video by James Hoffmann where he talked about the French press grind size thing, and it completely changed my approach too. He said to go way coarser than you'd think, like sea salt level coarse, and steep for 4 minutes before plunging slow. I tried it last week with a Guatemalan dark roast and the mouthfeel was incredible, not muddy at all just full and smooth. Definitely makes me question why I spent so long with my V60.
