TIL my local roaster in Denver stopped offering light roasts last month
He said customers kept complaining it was too acidic, but I think a good light roast brings out the fruit notes better. Anyone else's local spot ditch a roast style you liked?

Maybe @blairm93's friend can try a different shop's cold brew.

Wait, they stopped light roasts completely?

My buddy went in last week looking for his usual light roast and the barista just shook her head. They only had medium and dark on the menu now. He was so bummed, @blairm93, because he really loved their fruity Ethiopian blend. Said the dark roast just tastes like burnt charcoal to him now. He's been trying other shops but hasn't found a good replacement yet.

That "burnt charcoal" feeling your friend mentioned is exactly right. It feels like we're losing the subtle flavors in everything, not just coffee. I see it with bread, beer, even vegetables at the store. Everything gets pushed toward a stronger, bolder, and often simpler taste. It makes me wonder if they think most people just want a basic jolt and don't care about the details anymore. It's a real shame for those of us who do.
