Took me 3 hours to dial in a chemex brew, but my coworker swears his $20 drip machine makes better coffee...
I spent all Sunday morning fighting with grind size and pour speed on my chemex, but when I brought a cup to work he said his Mr. Coffee tastes just as good, so is there really a difference in technique or is it all just hype?

My buddy brought his $10 Mr. Coffee to my place last month and we blind tasted it against my chemex, I was so confident I even had a smug little grin on my face. My neighbor picked the drip machine, my wife chose the drip, and my dog wouldn't even sniff my cup so that was a real ego check. I think the chemex makes a cleaner cup but if you pour in a splash of cream and a spoonful of sugar it pretty much levels the playing field.

3 hours for dialing in a chemex is exactly why I switched to a $15 Mr. Coffee last year. I did a blind taste test with 6 coworkers and 4 of them picked the drip machine over my friend's V60 pour over. The bitterness and body differences everyone talks about just vanish when you add milk and sugar anyway.
