Warning: I spent $60 on a 'precision' coffee scale and it's just a tiny scale
It measures to the tenth of a gram, but my $12 kitchen scale did the same thing. Has anyone found a real use for these besides feeling fancy?

Ugh, it's totally about the repeatability for espresso... my cheap scale had a lag that messed up my shots. That tenth of a gram consistency is the only thing that got my pulls right. Fancy feeling was just a bonus, I guess.

Heard a barista explaining once how even a 0.2 gram lag can throw off your ratio big time, especially if you're pulling lighter roasts. They said they'd rather have a slow scale that's consistent than a fast one that jumps around. Makes total sense why you'd go for something rock solid just to know your numbers aren't lying.

Wait, your cheap scale had a lag? Like, it showed the weight after you'd already stopped? That's wild, I never even thought about that messing things up. No wonder you couldn't get a repeatable shot, you were basically guessing! Okay, I get the tenth of a gram thing now, it's not about being picky, it's about the stupid tool not lying to you.

That tenth of a gram thing is overrated. A lot of it is just getting a feel for the machine and the beans. My shots got better when I stopped worrying about the scale and just watched the flow.
