Wasted $80 on a fancy espresso machine attachment that turned out to be junk
I bought this pressurized portafilter basket from a big online store thinking it would make my cheap machine pull shots like the pros. It was supposed to create fake crema without needing a grinder that costs more than my car. After three tries my coffee came out bitter and watery every time. I even watched a dozen YouTube tutorials and adjusted my grind size to dust. Turns out the basket just traps pressure wrong and scorches the grounds. My buddy laughed and told me it's basically a glorified tea strainer. I could've spent that $80 on a real refurbished grinder instead. Has anyone else fallen for those "upgrade" parts that promise way too much?

I bought a fancy coffee scale once just to find out my tap water was the real problem.

Those three bitter pulls you mentioned, did you try running the machine without any coffee first to check if the basket itself was leaking pressure? I've seen some of those cheap ones actually have a loose seal from the factory. Would've saved you the YouTube rabbit hole if you caught it early.

Actually running it without coffee wouldn't tell you much about pressure leaks in the basket itself. The seal issue with those things usually shows up as water dripping around the edges while brewing, not when it's empty. That YouTube rabbit hole might've actually saved you some time if you'd found a video about checking the gasket fit on the machine instead.
