Can we talk about color correction taking forever?

I had a client yesterday who wanted to go from dark box dye to a cool blonde. I knew it would be tough, but I figured maybe two sessions. After the first round of color remover and a bleach bath, we were still at a stubborn orange level 7. I spent over four hours just on the second round of lightening and toning, way past my booked time. Has anyone found a better way to lift through that much artificial pigment without frying the hair?

Oh man, that reminds me of a client last month who insisted her box black was "basically faded out." It was not. I showed her a swatch of what we could maybe get to in one go, a warm brown, and she looked so sad. We did the slow process and she was thrilled with the caramel we landed on, but I swear the first five minutes of that talk are the hardest part of the whole job.

Honestly, four hours sounds about right for that kind of correction (maybe even fast). Box dye is basically paint, and you can't rush removing paint without wrecking the surface. Setting realistic time expectations with the client from the start is the real fix, not some magic product.

Ugh, totally. I always book a whole day for box dye fixes and warn them it's a long process.

My aunt's salon charges extra for box dye removal.
