Can we talk about the hot tool burn hazard I saw at that Dallas salon

I stopped by a friend's salon in Dallas last Thursday for a quick trim and watched a stylist set a 450 degree flat iron directly on the counter between passes, melting the surface right near a client's arm. She laughed it off saying it happens all the time, but that's a 3rd degree burn and salon fire risk waiting to happen. Anyone else seen this in their shop and what do you use to keep irons parked safely?

Did you know those things can hit 450 degrees and stay hot for like 20 minutes after unplugging? I read about a salon in Austin that had a close call with a towel catching fire from an iron left on a counter. Honestly the best fix is a simple metal rest or a heat safe mat, they cost almost nothing and keep everyone safe.
