Found a cheap trick for covering gray roots between salon visits

I've got dark brown hair and those grays show up like crazy after just two weeks. My stylist told me to try eyeshadow powder in a matching shade and pat it on with a small brush. I used a $5 elf eye shadow and it blended perfectly with my natural color. This saved me from booking another $80 root touch up this month. Has anyone else found a good home fix for quick root coverage?

yo I saw a tiktok where someone used brown eyeshadow for the same trick and it looked fire.

Wait, is that the same one where they used a fluffy brush to blend it out? I tried that brown trick with my everyday palette and it came out way more natural than the black I was using before. Honestly I've been using brown instead of black for everything lately and it looks so much softer.
