Had a client bring in a box of expired hair dye from 2019

This lady walked into my chair at Great Clips in Topeka last Tuesday with a dusty box of Splat. She wanted me to use it on her grays and I had to explain the formula was probably separated and dead. Anybody else have to talk a client down from old box dye disasters?

Read something from a chemist online about this exact thing. Said expired dyes basically become useless after about 18 months. The oxidizing agents break down and the color molecules clump up. Heard one horror story from a stylist in Milwaukee who used old black dye on a client and it turned green. Not worth the risk even if the client is cheap.
