Hit 500 clients in my chair this month and it got me thinking about volume vs. quality

I've been doing hair for about 7 years now and I just passed 500 different clients in my book. That number surprised me because I always thought I kept a smaller, loyal group. But when I counted them up, it was way more than I expected. The thing is, about half of those people are one-time visitors. Walk-ins, bridal parties, people just passing through town. The other half are regulars who book every 6 weeks like clockwork. I'm curious how other stylists balance this. Do you focus on building deep relationships with fewer clients or do you take anyone who walks in the door and just deal with the churn? Has anyone else looked at their numbers and felt conflicted about the kind of business they're running?

But do you feel the regulars get better service, or do the one-timers get the same effort?

Yeah, does that kind of thing ever really matter in the long run? I mean, I get what you're saying, but I swear every time I'm a regular somewhere I end up getting the same exact treatment as the person who walks in off the street. Idk, maybe it's just me, but I had this one barber for like three years and he still forgot my name every visit. Then one day he just up and moved to a different shop without saying anything, so I had to start all over again with some new guy who cuts my hair way better anyway. Service is so random sometimes you just gotta roll with it, you know?

@lucast81 you get the same treatment either way, except one timers don't have to nod through the barber's whole life story.
