I thought balayage was overhyped til a client brought in a 2019 photo of her hair
For two years I rolled my eyes at balayage. I came up in the foil world and figured it was just a lazy way to charge more for less work. Last month a regular named Dana sat in my chair at the shop here in Sacramento and pulled out a photo from 2019, back when a stylist in LA did her with balayage. The grow out was soft and the money piece still framed her face after five months. My foils never look that easy at week eight. So I took a class in June to learn the hand painting and free hand blending the right way. Turns out the hard part is not the paint, it is reading the canvas and knowing where her part naturally falls. I did three practice mannequins before I touched a real head with it. Now I want to know, how many of you actually sat through a class before you started offering it?
