Just came back from a weekend conference in Nashville and noticed ALL the stylists there were using the same blowdryer brand

Read a piece in Allure that tested like 15 different blow dryers side by side and found the same thing. Almost every pro stylist ended up picking that one brand for the speed and the way it didn't fry their clients' hair. I guess if you're doing back to back clients all day, the weight and heat control matter way more than some flashy new feature. The article mentioned a couple specific models that stood out for different hair types too. Kinda makes you wonder how much of it is actual quality versus just industry hype getting passed around.

Oh totally get what you're saying and I respect the Allure test (they usually do good work), but I actually see it a little differently. I think that kind of test can be misleading because they're testing on someone else's hair in a controlled environment, not on real clients with different textures and damage levels. Like, my arm doesn't get tired because I'm not doing marathon blowouts all day, but I also NEED that instant heat to work through coarse or curly hair without it dragging. The pro brands might be objectively better for speed and weight, but if you're a regular person (or even a stylist who does a lot of textured hair), that "industry hype" can actually be a real shortcut to getting a smooth finish without needing to repeat sections. I'd rather have a slightly heavier but more powerful motor than spend extra for a balanced dryer that takes twice as long.

The weight factor is everything when you're on your feet for hours. I tried using a cheap dryer once for a whole wedding party. My arm was dead by the third bridesmaid. Those pro dryers cost more but they're balanced better so you're not constantly fighting the tool. Also the heat sensors are way more consistent. You can tell the difference when you're doing a full head of highlights that needs precise drying.
