My instructor at the Aveda school in Portland said I gripped shears like a socket wrench and it took 3 months to fix
Back in 2019 I was about 400 hours into my 1,500 at a school in Portland. My instructor watched me do a blunt cut on a mannequin and said I was gripping my shears like a socket wrench. I had no idea what she meant. She had me hold my hand up and showed me how my pinky was locked out and my knuckles were white. I was using my whole arm to close the blades instead of just my thumb. She taped a pencil to the finger rest and made me do finger-to-thumb only drills for 20 minutes at the start of every shift. After 3 months of that it finally clicked in my wrist and hand. Now I can cut a full head without my forearm burning. Any of you get called out on something basic way later than you want to admit?
