Overheard a client say she mixes her own hair color at home with grocery store box dye

Was shampooing a woman at my chair in Greenville last Tuesday and she casually mentioned she saves $45 per session by mixing drugstore color with developer from the beauty supply. I tried to explain the risks of uneven processing and breakage, but she shrugged it off. Has anyone else seen damage from these at-home concoctions come through your salon?

Fifty shades of brassy orange" is right lol. But honestly this is part of a bigger thing I see everywhere now - people trying to hack everything to save a buck without thinking about the long term cost. Like my neighbor bought a cheap pressure washer from Walmart and used it to clean his deck without reading the instructions, ended up gouging deep lines into the wood that cost way more to fix than renting a decent one. Same with people who watch one youtube video and think they're a plumber or electrician. The box dye thing is just the hair version of that whole "I can do it myself for less" mindset that usually ends up costing more in the end.
