Rant: wasted $120 on a peel that ruined my skin barrier

I bought this fancy at-home chemical peel last month from a boutique in Austin, thought I was saving money versus the spa. Followed the instructions to the letter, left it on the exact time, and my face turned into a flaky, red mess for two weeks. My regular client even asked me if I had a reaction to something, and I had to cancel three appointments because I couldn't show my face. Turns out the pH was way too low for my skin type, and the company never put warnings about that on the box. Has anyone else burned cash on a product that needed a patch test you didn't do?

Followed the instructions to the letter" is probably where it went sideways, honest mistake. Most peel brands assume you know your skin's tolerance already, and low pH is barely a footnote in their little booklets. I learned the hard way too that even "gentle" acids can wreck you if your moisture barrier is already thin, so now I treat every new product like a science experiment.
