Serious question about texture sprays on fine hair, am I the only one with this issue?
So I had a client come in last week with super fine, straight hair and she asked for that messy, lived-in beach wave look. I used my usual sea salt texture spray, let it air dry, and it just looked crunchy and flat by the end of the day. She was nice about it but asked why it felt like straw. I've noticed most texture sprays are too heavy or drying for this hair type, but everyone keeps recommending them like they're a one size fits all. Does anyone have a lighter approach or a specific technique for fine hair that actually holds volume without the crunch? I'm based in Tucson and I'd love to hear what's worked for your clients before I experiment on mine again.
I caught a stylist on a podcast saying the trick for fine hair is to spray the texture product on your HANDS first, then scrunch it through instead of spraying directly. That way you get the grip without soaking the roots or weighing down the strands. Also, they mentioned mixing a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner with the spray to cut the crunch, which sounds counterintuitive but honestly seems like it could work for your Tucson humidity situation.
