Unpopular opinion: I think the 'no talking about politics' rule in the salon is a bad idea. My best week ever was when a client and I had a real, respectful debate about a local issue while I did her color.

Terry's comment about losing a client really sticks with me... it's such a fine line between meaningful discussion and just chasing people away." The local issue was about changing our town's zoning laws for small businesses, nothing huge but people felt strongly on both sides. We kept it cool by focusing on facts and personal experiences instead of letting anyone get into broad political arguments... just agreeing to disagree on the details while finding common ground on wanting what's best for the neighborhood.
